Bringing the best air quality to your business
Zehnder’s air cleaning solutions offer many different kinds of filter configurations, tailored to fit specific environments.
Filters can be divided into three basic types, based on the filtering method: electrostatic, compact and bag filters. Each filter type also comes in a number of different classes, ranging from coarse filters for catching larger particles, to what’s known as HEPA filters for much smaller, ultrafine dust, viruses and micro-organisms.
If you then factor in Zehnder’s extensive range of air purifiers, which contain the filters, there are hundreds of possible combinations to capture various types of dust, fumes, oil mist, gases, germs, micro-organisms and viruses.
In most cases, we combine different filters to ensure the most effective performance of our air cleaning systems. If need be, we can provide tailor-made options, too. By doing this, we ensure the best possible air quality for your business.

Often we cannot see the things that cause potential harm, like airborne dust particles and viruses. Our high-quality industrial air filters not only protect you and your staff’s health, but they also maintain the integrity of your machinery and product quality.
Compact filters come in many different filter classes, ranging from coarse filters for trapping larger, coarse particles, to what’s known as HEPA filters for harmful ultrafine particles . These smaller filters work as supportive filters and can be obtained in different filter classes (up to HEPA 14).
A Flimmer filter consists of thousands of polypropylene fibers that capture particles mainly using an electrostatic charge. Unlike some other filters, the Flimmer allows a high rate of air flow through it, even when it contains lots of dust. It can be used as a Flimmer-only option or as a patented combination with a compact filter. Using the Flimmer as a pre-filter to a compact will significantly prolong the life of the secondary filter.
Bag filters are typically installed in places with very large amounts of dust. Zehnder also has bag filters made of fiberglass that are able to absorb mists and smoke in welding environments and machining areas.
In simple terms, dust is a form of air pollution consisting of airborne particles often referred to as particulate matter (PM). Dust in industrial workplaces can occur naturally – as pollen, for example – or from human activity, including manufacturing, construction, farming and quarrying. Particulate matter comes in different sizes, most of which is invisible to the naked eye.
A filter class describes how well a filter performs in trapping different particle sizes/PM categories. As well as guaranteeing our filters meet rigorous requirements, it’s a good way to ensure you’re using the right product to filter out dust particles in your workplace.
ASHRAE 52.2 is the standard for testing air filters in the US. The organization measures air particle sizes to confirm how efficient air filters are filtering particles that can be harmful if breathed in and absorbed by the body MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, and the scale lets you know how effective filters are at keeping out dangerous particles.
EN1822 is the valid standard for certifying EPA, HEPA and ULPA filters. It’s the official standard in America and Europe.
